Storing cylinders
- Keep LPG cylinders upright, outside, on a firm level base with air around them.
- At least 1m from doors, windows, drains and cellar openings. LPG is heavier than air and sinks.
- Never store propane in a cellar or below ground level.
- Industrial cylinders should be chained or strapped so they cannot fall.
Moving cylinders
- Carry them upright and secured, with a window open, and take them straight out of the vehicle when you arrive.
- Do not roll large cylinders on their side. Use a sack truck.
If you smell gas
Turn off the cylinder valve, put out any flames, do not use switches, open doors and windows, and move away. Call us, or the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 if the leak is from mains gas.
